Mixed Use / Retail

Octagon Shopping Centre, Burton upon Trent

This project involved the upgrading of heating systems within the Octagon Shopping Centre in Burton upon Trent, following a PPM Survey carried out by ECS Consultants.

This followed a PPM Survey and a Condition/Pre-Acquisition Survey of existing mechanical and electrical installations.

The shopping centre boasts more than forty retailers, ranging from restaurants and food stores to fashion and entertainment. To avoid inconvenience to both retailers and customers, these works were undertaken overnight during the summer.

Home to eight breweries, Burton upon Trent became a centre for the brewing industry due in part to the quality of the local water, which contains a high proportion of dissolved salts, predominantly caused by the gypsum in the surrounding hills. This allowed a greater proportion of hops, a natural preservative, to be included in the beer, thereby allowing the beer to be shipped further afield.
