Education Project

Holy Family RC School, Salford

This new, two form entry primary school resulted from the amalgamation of a pair of existing establishments and was constructed on an undeveloped brown field site.

ECS obtained all search information and organised the diversion of all utilities for the site. This also involved the application for new supplies for the proposed school building.

The project was targeted at BREEAM ‘Very Good’ and ECS dealt with the BREEAM Assessor in relation to the energy requirements. The building was heated using a ground source heat pump with an underfloor heating system in order to maximise efficiency.

This system was complemented by gas boiler plant. The gas plant provided a top up for the underfloor heating and domestic hot water generation.

ECS designed mechanical ventilation systems to meet the requirements of Building Bulletin 101. The specified lighting system was biodynamic, allowing lamp colour temperature to change throughout the day.
